Hydraulic unit converter

Pick a quantity, enter a value, and every equivalent in that family updates at once. The factors are exact definitions, not rounded ones — 1 bar is 100 000 Pa, 1 in is 25.4 mm, and 1 US gallon is 3.785 411 784 L.

Six families of hydraulic units with the four conversions that are most often done wrong
Six families, and four of them contain a trap. The converter uses exact definitions so that the trap is removed rather than moved.

The conversions that cause expensive mistakes

US and UK gallons. A 10 gpm pump is 37.9 L/min in the US and 45.5 L/min in the UK. On a hydraulic unit bought second-hand, that is the difference between a pump that matches the motor and one that overloads it.

Tonnes and tons. A metric tonne is 1 000 kg; a US short ton is 907 kg and a UK long ton is 1 016 kg. Cylinder catalogues quote tonnes, American equipment is rated in short tons, and the 10% gap is routinely ignored until something is overloaded.

psi and bar. 3 000 psi is 207 bar, not 300 bar. A cylinder rated 210 bar is not safe at 3 000 psi, and a hose rated 3 000 psi is not a 300 bar hose.

Horsepower. Metric hp (PS) is 0.7355 kW; mechanical hp is 0.7457 kW. A 1.4% difference, which is enough to matter when you are checking a motor against a nameplate.
